Niclaus was born on August 17th, 1777 and his baptism took place on August 17th, 1777.  Niclaus' father was Hans Maurer and his mother was Anna, Schüpbach.  His paternal grandparents were Christen Maurer and Maria Tschanz; his maternal grandparents were Hans Schüppach and Barbara Meyer. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Hans, Christen, Elsbeth and Anna.  He was the third oldest of the five children. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Bendicht, Samuel, Johannes and Magdalena.  He died at the age of 66 in August 1843.  His burial was on August 21st, 1843.
