Christen was born in July 1767 and his baptism took place on July 26th, 1767 in Rüderswil.1   Christen's father was Christen Wälti and his mother is Elsbeth Lüti.  His paternal grandfather was Niclaus Wälti and his paternal grandmother is Babara Stettler. He had a brother and a sister, named Niklaus and Elisabeth.  He is the oldest of the three children.
