Friedrich was born in January 1791 and his baptism took place on January 2nd, 1791 in Lützelflüh.1 2   Friedrich's father was Christen Wälti and his mother was Barbara Grütter.  His paternal grandparents were Christen Wälti and Anna Röthlisberger. He had two brothers named Christen and Hans.  He was the youngest of the three children.  He died at the age of 32 on February 1st, 1823.3
